The City of Dawson is sanctioned by the court to build a wastewater treatment plant based on their violation of s. 36(3) of the Fisheries Act.

YG proposed aerobic lagoon at lots 1058/1059 is put to referendum. With a count of 300 to 91, Dawson Residents voted against the proposed solution.
June 2008
A team from the department of Highways and Public Works begins to work with the department of Community Services and the City of Dawson to explore all potential options. A list of four potential lagoon options is chosen from a list of 12 potential sites.
September 2008
Procurement process begins. YG issues a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) and subsequently, a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a design-build contract for a mechanical plant.
February 2009
The City of Dawson and Yukon Government invite community groups to meet and discuss project updates and treatment options.
The City of Dawson and Government of Yukon hold a public information session in Dawson City to present the location options currently under consideration and provide opportunities for questions and comments from residents and other stakeholders.March 5, 2009
RFP Closes – Corix Water systems is selected as the winning proponent.

Information Session is held in the community to explain the selected technology, provide project updates and answer questions from residents.

Ground Breaking Ceremony – Contract signed with Corix Water Systems. Yukon sub contractors include Han Construction, Ben’s Electric, Keith’s Plumbing, EBA and Dorward Engineering.
September / October 2009
Test holes are drilled at the site to determine the geological and hydrogeological aspects of the ground at the site. No permafrost is found.
January / February / March 2010
YESAA application is submitted and opens for public comment.
Project team continues to meet with community groups, and the public to inform them of the projects status and to provide opportunities for questions and feedback.
Design of the plant is finalized.Spring 2010
Drilling Begins, foundation is laid, and exterior of building is constructed.
The noise produced during the construction phase will be equivalent to that of many urban construction sites. All works conducted on site will adhere to the Town of Dawson City’s noise bylaw. Construction will only occur between the hours of 7:00 am and 11:00 pm; however the majority of construction work will be completed between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. The noise level will vary throughout the construction period. The drilling process is anticipated to produce the most noise, and the projected timeline for this work occurs mainly outside of the main tourist season.Winter 2010
Internal Components of the system are built.
Spring 2011
A building permit from the Government of Yukon and a water license from the Water Board are obtained. Excavation for the new facility is completed.
Summer and Fall 2011
Concrete pours begin to facilitate final construction of the facility. Erection of steel begins for the building shell.
Winter 2011
Begin work to fit out the interior of the new facility.
Spring 2012
Plant will be operational. Corix Water Systems continues one year of testing of the plant and training of City of Dawson staff.
